Is your cover hurting sales?

That’s a loaded question, but a good one to ask. When designing a cover, we always look at the book material. If it’s a romance, well you want to cover to sell romance. If it’s sci-fi well it should spew sci-fi. I’ve seen so many covers that just didn’t impress me enough to look any further. That’s unfortunately the way most readers pick a book. If the cover pulls them in, they grab it up.

My very first book was published with a somewhat horrible cover that I threw together way too quickly. Of course now I know better. I have a cover designer that works with me on all my covers and the one’s that we design through Horseshoe. We get to the heart of the book and try to make the story come alive in the cover. Remember, this is your top selling point.

Do your homework? Go to book sites and check out different covers in your genre. Check out the fonts used, the pictures and the special effects. You can really wow a reader with the perfect cover. It’s a great promotional item for your book.

If you have no clue how to even start with the process, then contact us here at Horseshoe Publishing. We’re always glad to step in and help out. We will design the cover around your book, your ideas and make it your very own. Right now we’re offering a Spring Into Action 20% discount on all our services. Check out some of our covers on our Pinterest Site at www.pinterest.com/horseshoepublis.

Good luck with your writing.

How do you set a release date?

Have you ever wondered how to set your release date? It’s a scary time for me. I want everything to be perfect, well as perfect as it can get. The cover has been ready for month or so, but the writing has been in a rat race.

Now that Smashwords.com offers preorders on their site and Other retailers, it’s important to get it out there a little early, but how early? For me I think 15 days or 1/2 a month. But others do prereleases up to several months.

As for me, I went with 15 days, but it’s entirely up to the author. I may opt for a longer preorder period with the next book. I will see how the first preorder goes. I’ll be letting you know how it goes throughout the process.

Don’t forget to check out the services we offer. If you’re a author and you need help, just message us. If you opt in for the whole package we give 10% off. For a limited time we’ll also offer a 10% discount if you choose more than one service.

Come on over and check us out. You won’t be sorry. Also check out the Blog Tour sponsored by Rosie Amber and Stephanie Hurt. It starts September 1st and goes for 30 days straight.

Want more time to write?

I know as a writer you need more time to write. If you have to stop and edit or create that awesome cover, then you miss out of writing time. If this is a problem, then why not check out our services here at Horshoe Publishing.

Take the guess work out of the cover. Let us design you a great cover that will turn heads. Make a bold statement or soften the mood. Whatever you want, we will strive to give.

Want a cool book trailer video? Then talk with us about getting it designed. Video Trailers get to the heart of your book without giving too much. You can tell more in a trailer video than on the back of the book, so tell it. Let us help you.

Hope you’re having a great writing day.

Cover Art

How do you find your cover art? Well, it’s an important question. You can’t use just any photo on your covers. Make sure they are royalty free.

Also, if you’re book is a historical romance you don’t need to put a modern couple on the cover. You’d mislead the reader and believe me you don’t want a mad reviewer on your hands. Make sure your cover goes with the book content.

Also, you want to use a good picture. Don’t use a cheesy photo that looks photo cropped in. The cover is the first thing a potential reader sees when deciding to buy your book. If it draws them in then they’ll probably buy your book. I’ve bought several books based on the covers alone.

Our company uses several different photo sites including Bigstockphoto.com and Istockphoto.com. What website do you use? Has it been a beneficial site for you?

If you’re struggling with your cover design, give us a try. Our design department can design a great cover based on your ideas or we’ll give you a couple of choices based on your book.

Hope you have a great evening…

Ever feel up against the wall

Have you ever felt up against a wall? Like nowhere you turn it’s going to help the situation. Sometimes that wall is just too hard to break down. Well, that’s the way some self publishers feel when they start to finish their work.

You do fine with the writing, but then you get to the cover and editing. Wow! What now? I remember the first covers I designed when I started out. Horrible is all I can say… Sure didn’t gather many fans with those rudimentary covers.

You’ve got to make sure your cover draws the reader in and to keep them as loyal fans always make sure you manuscript is cleared of any grammatical and spelling errors. There’s nothing worse than reading a book and having to figure out what the author is trying to say through the badly spelled words and grammatical errors.

Then you have the form that the publisher wants. Is yours correct? Have you taken out the tabs and is your spacing just right? What a headache.

Come on over and check out our publishing services. We help you to start your next work while we get the latest one polished up and ready to go. Maybe you want a video trailer to go with that published book.

Keep us in mind… As a published author I know how hard it is to juggle everything. Let us help you…Image

Why name it Horseshoe?

Well, several people have asked me why we named it Horseshoe Publishing. It’s very simple, I love horses. Also horseshoes are supposed to be good luck. When you start a new business you need lots of luck so why not name it Horseshoe and put two horseshoes facing up which is good luck too.

Hope you come by and check out our site. Writing has become an important part of my life and it’s important to me to help other authors. When I started publishing books it was hard to figure it out. I needed help and was lucky to have people that stepped up. Our fees are minimal and we’ve researched out competition to make sure we don’t over price.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 4th of July…

What song goes with your book?

Ok, you can’t tell me that you haven’t thought about this. Every book that I’ve written it’s always had a sound track. Funny as it sounds it’s true.

The reason I ask this is when you’re getting ready to set up a video trailer it helps to have a certain sound in mind. Maybe it’s a classical song, a rock song or a country classic. But every book has it’s own rhythm or sound.

So if you want to do a video trailer get ready to figure out the sound of your book. That’s one of the services that we offer at Horseshoe Publishing. Give us a message and check out our services.

Have a great evening and good luck with your writing…

Released today! “Not This Time” By: V. Steele

Horseshoe Publishing is proud to announce the release of “Not This Time” By: V. Steele. The cover design and editing was completed by Horseshoe Publishing. It’s being released to Amazon, Smashwords, Allromanceebooks and many others. This is the second book from V. Steele. We’re excited to showcase her work.

Here’s a little tidbit to wet your palette:

She looked on the dresser and noticed a gift with her name on it. She smiled thinking it might be a little surprise from Zach. She pulled on the ribbon and then carefully opened the box. She almost fainted when she looked inside. Nestled inside the layers of tissue paper was a crystal angel. A note card was folded under it. She pulled the note out with shaky fingers.

Before she opened the note she closed her eyes and prayed this was just a coincidence. Her heart told her she was dead wrong. Her suspicions were confirmed when she unfolded the card. Taking a slow, deep breath she read the card. “Here’s an angel for my angel. I’ll never stop loving you, NEVER. Do what’s in your heart, but don’t do this if your heart isn’t ready. Love, Your Cowboy Forever, Luke. P.S. I’ll wait for you at our special place, if you don’t show up I’ll know your heart was in it.”

Her hand covered her mouth as a sob escaped. Why’d he always do this to her? Why was she still so in love with him? Why couldn’t she just forget he ever existed? But the sad thing was she knew exactly why. He held her heart and he knew it. That’s what made this so bad, he knew all he had to do was send this angel and a note and she’d go flying back to him.

Check it out now.
